Detailed information

The findings of the study were that student's hawkers have limited time to study, do their home works, and participate in class activities. Some student hawkers also performed poorly in their final year exams, play truant in school, attended school late and sometimes absent themselves on many occasions because of their hawking activities. The study also showed that majority of the students were hawking because their parents had no money and pocket money to buy food and such made them prefer hawking than to stay in school. The study recommended that a clarion call should be made to the government to legally prohibit student street hawking activity in Ghana. The various governments, philanthropic organizations and individuals are urged to embark on mass campaign to conscience the people as to the evils of street hawking.
