For a long time, it was thought that in order to make peace, "enemies" first had to be defeated, but in 1945 the international community realized that it was not the enemy that had to be defeated, but war itself. The United Nations Charter, set itself the task of creating a world order that prevents states around the world from resolving their conflicts by force. However, for all its success, it has not yet succeeded in eradicating war. So, do we have to give up the dream of "eternal peace"? No, says Hartwig von Schubert.
