Detailed information

For the assessment of analgesic property of the plant extract using acetic acid induced writhing pain model in Wistar albino rats, which were divided into five groups (n=6 per group) with group I serving as control. Group II received paracetamol @ 100 mg/kg and group III, IV and V rats were administered with METO orally @ 200, 300 and 400 mg per kg respectively. The experimental rats were apparently healthy throughout the experiment period without the observation of any abnormal clinical signs or notable changes with respect to bodyweights and feed intake. Significant (p < 0.05) analgesic activity was observed in group V, however with moderate potentiality than the standard paracetamol. The in vitro antioxidant study by Ferric reducing antioxidant power assay and DPPH assay at 200 µg/ml and 250 µg/ml concentrations of METO revealed minor antioxidant activity in comparison to ascorbic acid as the standard. The repeated dose 28-day oral toxicity study of METO was performed in male Wistar albino rats as per the OECD guidelines 407, the dose levels of 250, 500 and 1000 mg/kg, orally gavaged daily for 28 days in group II, III and IV respectively.
