Detailed information

Smoking is one of the world's leading causes of preventable disease and premature death. Tobacco control and prevention are priorities in the fight against this scourge. The electronic cigarette is seen by the general population as an aid to smoking cessation. However, this remains a controversial issue.s conducted a cross-sectional descriptive study of medical students in Tunisia. The aim of this study was to investigate the practices and experiences of e-cigarette users among medical students. Our population comprised 31 subjects with a mean age of 28±4 years and a sex ratio of 2.87. Smoking tobacco was present in 74.2%. Consumption of other psychoactive substances was noted in 16.1% of cases (5 participants). Fifteen participants (48.3%) had experimented with electronic cigarettes before the age of 25. Fifteen participants (48.3%) were not smokers of normal tobacco when they started vaping. Fifteen people were not smokers of normal tobacco when they first experimented with electronic cigarettes, four of whom actually switched to smoked tobacco.
