Detailed information

This play, written by its author in 1915, deals with a rich historical era in the history of the city of Mansoura, the capital of Dakahlia Governorate, which was established by King Al-Kamil Muhammad in the year 1219 in the era of the Ayyubid Empire, when the Crusaders occupied Damietta at the time of the Fifth Crusade against Egypt. The Egyptians defeated the Crusaders in the year 1250 at the time of the Seventh Crusade, led by Louis IX, King of France, in the battle that was later known as the Battle of Mansoura. The French king was captured in this battle and then placed in the Ibn Luqman House in Mansoura, which still exists today as an important historical monument. The author was inspired by historical events and situations in his play, which was performed on stage many times over successive years.
