The critical term 'Diaspora Compromise,' quite novel to diaspora discourses, is introduced by Bivan, and is foregrounded alongside other terms such as Victim Diaspora and Contemporary Diaspora as the defining fulcrum and background upon which the systematic and painstaking arguments of the texts has been marshaled. He has pursue the topic relentlessly for several years and with this work has carved out a solid position in the body of literature on the Diaspora.This study explores the many concepts inherent in the Diaspora Compromise as expressed in African-American and Caribbean literature; the sense of dual belonging, the dilemma of 'home' and the many challenges of crossing cultural lines. And then proposes the Diaspora Compromise as a means of breaking free from cultural limitations and finding self-acceptance in being both African and global.
